Yashio City is a region surrounded by rivers such as the Nakagawa and Ayase Rivers, and is characterized by its extensive network of waterways. These waterways have historically served as irrigation channels, supporting the agricultural fields and daily lives of the local community.
Today, many of the smaller waterways are being covered and converted into roads. This project draws on the memory of these waterways, which have long sustained the fields and livelihoods of Yashio, incorporating their character as a key element of the design.

The image of the waterways is expressed through a grid pattern, which also serves as an architectural design motif. By integrating this pattern into the signage system that guides visitors through the facility, the project aims to create a spatial experience in which the architecture and signage respond to and resonate with one another.

The wall grid pattern is created by applying each floor’s theme color to the recessed joints between the board panels.

Removable signage designed to accommodate future changes.
The large-number icons identifying service counters can be repositioned or replaced by suspending them from beams or ceilings equipped with sliding rails.
Wall-mounted information and wayfinding signs, as well as counter partitions, are designed with magnetically detachable strips, allowing both their positions and displayed information to be easily changed.

The pictograms were designed as simple, easily recognizable original icons, with their use as inlaid elements in the floor also taken into consideration.

Colors and graphics that encourage activity.
The walls of the civic activity spaces facing the courtyard, or “Circle Plaza,” on the second floor feature image colors inspired by elements associated with Yashio City. Graphic patterns of trees are applied to the window glass, evoking the reflection of the trees from the adjacent Yashio Chuo Park. Together, these elements create an inviting environment where citizens can gather and engage in activities.
