Fujimura Sports Center is a comprehensive sports facility comprising two arenas—the A Arena, primarily used for rhythmic gymnastics, and the B Arena, mainly used for volleyball and basketball—as well as a training room, indoor running track, multipurpose rooms, and spectator seating.
Drawing on Tokyo Women’s College of Physical Education’s distinguished tradition in rhythmic gymnastics, dynamic parabolic and flowing lines inspired by balls and ribbons are incorporated into the floor graphics. These expressive forms guide students and visitors toward their respective destinations while bringing a sense of movement and energy to the space.
As almost every area of the facility can function as a place for physical activity, rubber flooring was selected for the common areas to reduce physical strain. Wayfinding information was then inlaid directly into the same rubber material, integrating signage seamlessly into the floor.
The maintenance floors between the two arenas—located on the 2nd and 5th floors and distinguished by blue flooring—are normally used primarily as circulation routes and are not intended for everyday activities. The design makes effective use of these otherwise underutilized spaces by incorporating information into both the floor and walls that encourages six different exercises, including shuttle runs and vertical jumps, transforming them into informal training areas.
The project was conceived around the idea of activating the entire facility through a variety of spatial interventions, using signage and environmental information not simply to guide people, but to encourage movement and activity.

To make effective use of a maintenance floor that is normally unused as a circulation route, information encouraging physical activity was integrated into the floor and walls. The space was transformed into a training area where users can engage in six different exercises.

The running track, which also serves as a circulation route for the arena seating, uses all-weather surfacing. Distance markers placed every 10 meters allow users to keep track of how far they have run.

By indicating the number of steps from B1 to the 6th floor, the staircase can also be used as a training stairway.
