43色のアルコープ空間

理性的な空間という位置付けでニュートラルな要素によって構成されている執務空間に対して、そのビッグプレートを取り巻く回廊である「EN」では、人とそのコミュニケーションの対流が起こす活発な創造活動の場としての空間演出がなされている。その中で「KURA」と呼ばれるアルコープ空間は、籠りの場、またディスカッションの場などフリーに使うことのできるスペースとして、回遊性のある「EN」からある領域を切り取る役割を果たしている。本プロジェクトではその43ヶ所あるアルコープ空間に対して、全て異なるカラーを展開し、それぞれCMYKに色分解した数値を固有のアドレスとしてグラフィック化、複写機のトップブランドメーカーの研究開発拠点としてのアイデンティティを演出している。また43色の展開ストーリーは、1月から12月へと移りかあわる季節について、それぞれの暦を彷彿とさせる色を日本の伝統色から選び出し、それらが低層部からスパイラル状に積み上がってゆく様で表現。それは色の日表の微妙な違いから様々な機会を感じ取ることのできるプロフェッショナル集団としての誇りをも表している。

43 Colors of Alcove Spaces

While the workplace itself is conceived as a rational environment composed of neutral elements, “EN”—the circulation space surrounding the large central plate—is designed as an active setting for creative exchange, where the movement and interaction of people generate a dynamic flow of communication and ideas.
Within this space, the alcoves known as “KURA” serve as areas that carve out individual zones from the continuous circulation of “EN.” These intimate spaces can be used freely, whether for focused individual work, informal discussions, or small gatherings.
For this project, all 43 alcoves were assigned a different color. Each color was digitally broken down into its CMYK values, which were then translated into a unique graphic address for each space. This system expresses the identity of the facility as a research and development center for a leading manufacturer of multifunctional printing and imaging systems.
The story behind the 43 colors is inspired by the changing seasons from January through December. Colors evocative of each month and its calendar were selected from the traditional Japanese color palette, and these hues are arranged in a spiral sequence rising from the lower levels upward.
The subtle variations between the colors reflect the nuanced changes found in the seasons, while also expressing the pride of a professional community capable of perceiving and responding to countless subtle differences and opportunities through color.
